Independence Day

Today is the 4th of July. A day during which we celebrate with cookouts and fireworks. But, let's not forget why we are celebrating. We have so many freedoms that other countries don't have. We have the freedom to be who we want to be. We are able to make choices that people in other countries could only dream about.

I am so very thankful to all the men and women who have served in the military. They choose to dedicate their lives to keeping our country free. SO...

THANK YOU to all who have served, are serving or have lost their lives protecting my freedoms.

Happiness

I posted my status on Facebook yesterday as "happy." The first response I got was "why?" At that particular time I really didn't have a reason for posting it. Really, it just sounded good. So, it got me to thinking...am I really happy? What makes me happy? And, why on earth did I post that anyway, knowing that it would bring a myriad of responses from my loving family and friends.

So, here are the things that make me happy, in no particular order (just in case you're wondering):

* The sound of my son's voice
* My son's smiling face
* Watching my son play soccer....because I know how much he loves the game
* Watching my son grow into a young adult...my baby is no longer a baby
* The quiet of the mountains
* Listening to water rush through a creek
* Colorful leaves on the trees in Autumn
* Oreos
* Singing in the car
* Reading a book
* Going for walks
* Listening to other people laugh
* Spending time with family
* Ice cream
* Listening to music
* Popcorn (you would have to read my FB post)

Of course, these are only a few of the things that make me happy. I'm sure there are some that I left out. And, to answer my own question...am I really happy? I would say I am. For the most part, just like everyone else.

When was the last time you asked yourself "am I happy?" And, "what makes me happy?" I challenge you to do that today!
